Parker Police bust alleged middle school marijuana ring

PARKER, Colo. -- The Douglas County District Attorney is considering charges against five children allegedly involved in the sale of marijuana at Sierra Middle School.

Parker Police took a report of the suspected illegal drug activity at the school, which is located at 6651 Pine Lane Ave., on Monday.

Police said they will forward seven charges to the DA’s office for review. They include two charges of intent to distribute, a Class 4 Felony, and five charges of possession, a petty offense.

No other details were available.

McDonald's donates $47,000 to Colorado schools

Local Colorado McDonald’s owners/operators donated over $47,000 to schools during the fifth annual Teachers Challenge event, which is an increase of over $3,670 from last year!

December: Winter begins, or does it?

DENVER -- November 2010 will go into the weather almanac as being unremarkable, though it was slightly warmer than average, much drier than normal, and a bit windy at times.

The only record of note was a peak wind gust of 55 mph at Denver International Airport.  That northwesterly gust set a new record high wind gust for November.   The previous record was 49 mph, set in 1990.

Take precautions when purchasing firewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- As the state prepares for another cold winter, many Coloradans may turn to the use of firewood as an alternative means of heating their homes.  The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) strongly recommends purchasing firewood from a reputable dealer. 

“The buyer should obtain the seller's name and business address,” said Nick Brechun, CDA’s Measurement Standards Program Administrator.  “Bulk firewood sellers in Colorado must provide a receipt with this information as well as the price, amount, and type of wood.”

Donations will support the work of the Red Cross, including disaster response, collecting lifesaving blood, teaching skills that can save a life, or assisting military members and their families.

Windy and cold weather to start the week

DENVER -- The snow as a no-show over metro Denver, but the southern suburbs and communities along the Palmer Divide managed to pick up an inch or so of fresh snow--just enough to create icy roads for the morning drive.

Temperatures will remain well below average on Monday, with afternoon readings in the low 30s.  Strong northerly winds will make it feel much colder, however, with wind chill temperatures in the teens and 20s.   

Colorado Republican lawmakers consider illegal immigration legislation

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Republican state lawmakers are trying to come up with legislation next year to deal with illegal immigration.

The Republican Study Committee of Colorado, a coalition of GOP state lawmakers which has no legal authority in the Legislature, is holding a summit at the Capitol on Monday.
