Man could face up to 5 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines for allegedly not paying taxes

William M. Rogers, Jr., age 69, of Castle Rock, Colorado, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, for income tax evasion and obstructing and impeding the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, IRS – Criminal Investigation, and Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration announced. Roger was arrested by federal agents on Thursday, April 12, 2012.  Rogers is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Denver today where he will be advised of the charges pending against him.

The Colorado Division of Securities is investigating Brian Melchior Wellens of Colorado Springs for his role in what the division is calling a "multimillion-dollar investment scheme," The Gazette reports. Wellens collected money from investors, with the funds to be pooled to buy vacation homes in Colorado and elsewhere, according to the state. Wellens has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing $36.4 million in liabilities to 76 creditors, including state House Majority Leader Amy Stephens and Abel Tapia, director of the Colorado Lottery. ...
