‘Duck Dynasty’ stars greet fans in Castle Rock

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Thousands of people lined up around Douglas County Fair Grounds in Castle Rock late Sunday afternoon for what many call an opportunity of a lifetime, just ask 11 year-old Jared Rios.

“I’m really excited. It’s going to be fun for me to see them. I’m a huge fan of the show and they are really funny to me,” said Jared Rios a fan of “Duck Dynasty.”

While some waited in line showing their support with their duck callers.

Others dressed the part in ducking hunting clothes.

“Actually this is what I wear anyway,” said Kit Bolton, a “Duck Dynasty” fan.

Surprisingly, they weren’t lined up to see a music legend or even a famous Hollywood actor. Instead it was all about Phil and Willie Robertson, who star in the hit reality series “Duck Dynasty.” A show featuring men in beards, who create duck callers in Louisiana.

During a special presentation held on the Fort Lupton campus of Aims Community College, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Noble Energy presented their 2012 ad valorem checks to Weld County. The total of the two checks was $148,557,244 or nearly 33% of all taxes paid to the Weld County Treasurer.

The Weld County Board of Commissioners and Aims Community College used the event as an opportunity to talk about the projects and programs the revenue from the oil and gas industry helps to fund.

"This event was a great opportunity for the Board to talk about what projects the county is able to undertake as a result of the oil and gas revenue," said Commissioner Chairman William Garcia. Those projects include:

TABOR Refund: Every real property owner in Weld County receives a temporary tax credit on the County mill levy, and the County is able to extend the tax credit primarily due to the revenue from oil and gas.

Small plane crash kills one near Castle Rock

DENVER — A small aircraft crashed in the Franktown area near Castle Rock Sunday morning, killing the pilot, Deborah Sherman of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Reports of a plane crash about 500 yards off of North Castlewood Canyon Road came in about 10 a.m. The property was identified as the Winkler Ranch, and it seems a rancher discovered “a large debris field” while tending to cattle.

There was no fire, but the only person aboard was killed. FOX31 has learned that the pilot was a male in his late 20s from Sandia Airpark in Edgewood, N.M., who was on his way to Centennial to meet up with his girlfriend.

Man in Castle Rock struck by car while changing tire

DENVER — A man was hurt Saturday night in Castle Rock when an oncoming car collided with his vehicle while he was outside changing a tire.

The accident happened about 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of Founders Parkway and Metzler Drive, Castle Rock police said. The man’s Mazda was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Cruz.

The 29-year-old victim was listed in stable condition Sunday. The driver of the Cruz, a 48-year-old woman, was also taken to the hospital. The victim’s wife was in the Mazda at the time and was apparently not hurt.

Drugs and alcohol were not thought to be a factor, police said.

Parker Boy Scout leader arrested for sexual exploitation of a child

PARKER, Colo. — “It’s definitely disturbing,” said Gary Mallory, who lives just two doors down from Brian David Robbins, the Parker man charged with collecting child pornography. “I don’t know what to think.”

Robbins was arrested Tuesday, after Parker Police served a warrant at his house and removed “numerous” pieces of evidence against the 30-year-old, who has been identified as a Scout Master for a Boy Scouts of America troop based in Parker.

“This is why I’m in law enforcement, to catch predators like this,” said Officer Dawn Cashman, of the Parker Police Department.

Small Businesses Are Growing in Weld County

According to information presented at the January 2013 Advisory Board meeting of the Northeast East Central Colorado Small Business Development Center (NEECCO SBDC), small businesses in Weld County are growing and thriving.

According to Richard Pickett, executive director of the SBDC, the Northeast East Central Region, to which Weld County belongs, realized $17,582,840 in capital formation in 2012.
