5 mph can be difference between life, death this Halloween

Press Release

DENVER - With a forecast of mild weather, thousands of young trick-or-treaters will be in harm's way on Colorado streets this Halloween. Driving just 5 mph above city speed limits puts those young lives at greater risk.

According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, a pedestrian is nearly twice as likely to be killed if they're hit by a car going 30 mph compared to if they're hit at 25 mph. This small 5 mph difference can literally be the difference between life and death.

Planning Commission to hear proposed change to in-home day care, public invited to provide input

The Castle Rock Planning Commission will hear a proposed ordinance amendment that would exempt small, in-home day care providers from the maximum square footage requirement for home occupations.

Residents are invited to provide input about the proposal at the Oct. 28 Planning Commission meeting.

Planning Commission will meet beginning at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, Council Chambers, 100 N. Wilcox St.

Several local, in-home daycare providers recently requested the proposed change.

The providers expressed an inability to meet the square footage regulations required to operate a home occupation in the Town of Castle Rock. Currently, Town Code requires the total area used for the home occupation not to exceed 20 percent of the gross floor area, or 300 feet.

Without a home occupation agreement in place, they are unable to obtain a Town of Castle Rock business license, and in turn, a license from the State of Colorado.
