Holiday travel tips at Denver International Airport

DENVER -- A busy holiday travel period is approaching at Denver International Airport (DIA), with an estimated 1,090,218 passengers expected during the week of Tuesday, December 20 through Monday, December 26. The passenger forecast provided by DIA’s airlines is 17,505 less than the record breaking 1,107,723 travelers recorded during the comparable period last year.

Daily passenger numbers for the holiday week (December 20-26) are: Tuesday 163,673, Wednesday 170,034, Thursday 171,774, Friday 173,415, Saturday 126,026, Sunday 120,619 and Monday 164,677.

Reduced-fare taxi rides for transit-dependent to be available Saturdays, most holidays

Reduced-fare taxi rides for transit-dependent Castle Rock residents will be available on Saturdays and some holidays in 2012, in addition to during the week, Town Council decided recently.

The taxi service started this year, after the Town bus service was eliminated. The Town pays a maximum of $10 per trip, and passengers must pay charges in excess of that amount.

The final phase of concrete (red median cover) is nearly complete.

Due to the colder temperatures and precipitation in December, crews are not able to complete the seeding on the eastbound shoulder and retention ponds. This means that the project will be put on hold until early spring, when conditions allow work to continue.

Authorities say a Colorado law banning texting by drivers two years ago is hard to enforce.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office says officers have written only one citation. Fort Collins police have written 41 and Boulder police 15.

RTD Directors kick off chat with residents using new telephone technology

DENVER -- The Regional Transportation District (RTD) started a new way of reaching out to the public Monday, Nov. 28 through telephone town hall meetings. RTD Directors Bill McMullen and Tom Tobiassen each called residents of their districts to talk about RTD’s programs, services and projects.

The first two telephone town halls of a 15-meeting series occurred Monday evening, with residents of the two districts participating to learn about local bus and rail service, RTD’s FasTracks transit expansion program and other projects underway. Through the town hall series RTD will randomly call more than 400,000 people through innovative telephone technology and invite them to participate in the telephone forum. This allows board members to reach out and speak directly with members of the community.
